Frequently asked questions

How do I browse iCloud Drive, a USB drive or Dropbox?

Open the navigation pane, tap Add location… and choose the folder you want. iOS only lets apps open folders you pick, so you do this once per location. It then stays in the Locations list.

How do I connect to a NAS, a Windows PC or a Mac?

Tap Add network location…. For Windows shared folders, Mac file sharing and most NAS boxes (SMB), Filewise walks you through connecting once in Apple's Files app (Browse › ··· › Connect to Server), then you pick the server folder. For WebDAV servers (for example Synology or QNAP with WebDAV turned on, or Nextcloud), choose WebDAV and enter the address, user name and password. Use an https:// address; plain http:// only works on your local network.

Where are my files stored?

Files in This iPhone / This iPad are stored in Filewise's own folder on your device. You can also see them in Apple's Files app under On My iPhone › Filewise. Files in a location stay where they are; Filewise works on them in place.

I deleted something by mistake.

Items deleted from This iPhone / This iPad go to the Bin, where you can restore them. Deleting from an added location (iCloud Drive, a USB drive and so on) is permanent. Filewise asks you to confirm first.

How do I select several files?

Tick the check boxes next to the files, or use ··· › Select all. Tap an item once to select it and again to open it.

Can I zip and unzip files?

Yes. Long-press items and choose Compress to ZIP file. To extract, select a zip and tap Extract all. Password-protected zips aren't supported.

Removing a location deleted nothing?

That's expected. Remove location only removes it from Filewise's list. Your files aren't touched.
